Our Licensee of the Year Award is back for 2022!

Being the most prestigious award for an individual or partnership of licensees in our industry, we are excited to be hosting these awards again.

Sponsored by Sky, the Licensee of the Year Award is widely regarded as the most rigorous and hard-fought award for individual licensee operators in the UK.  Last year, the entries throughout the process were of a particularly high standard, and so we look forward to meeting more skilled and dedicated operators this year.

This year's Licensee of the Year will be crowned at our Summer Event on 21st June 2022.

Meet our Finalists from 2021

Meet our LOYA 2021 Winners, Jason and Chris Black

The Pityme Inn, Wadebridge

"Winning has been a massive achievement for us, bearing in mind that we have only been licensees of our own business for three years. Receiving recognition from industry experts, especially during this time when the sector has been so hard hit, made it all the more intense.

"Each stage of the competition has given us an opportunity to reflect upon our business and everything that we have achieved. We are absolutely committed to what we do. We see hospitality, especially pubs, as vitally important to all our communities, and this has never been more true than over these past couple of years."

Mick and Sarah Dore - The Alexandra

Wimbledon, SW19 7NE

"It's only when you begin to list the different events, special days, steps you took over the years to improve the business, that you get to properly appreciate what you've achieved. The process has been quite heart-warming!

"We'd tell anyone considering LOYA to just go for it. The amount of folks on social media who've said, 'You so deserve it, you do a great job!' is worth entering in itself. Equally I've no doubt that one or two customers who've seen the publicity have made decisions to visit based directly upon it."

Tom and James Bainbridge - The White Hart

Welwyn, AL6 9EN

"This is our second time in the competition, the process of preparing for the interviews and then receiving the feedback last time gave us a lot to think about on how to improve. Having detailed feedback after the interviewing process is an invaluable resource.

"To anyone thinking of entering new year, we'd say the most important thing is to enjoy it! Make the most of the different stages you go through to make yourself and your business stronger. It's a great opportunity to have very skilled and knowledgeable professionals from our industry evaluate your business, something you might not come across often!"

Stephen and Rebecca Prince - The Grey Mare

Belthorn, BB1 2PG

"To be nominated and included in what is known as the Oscars of our industry is beyond our wildest dreams.

"The whole process has made us re-evaluate all areas of our business and improve upon many aspects, encouraging us to update and embrace our new products, systems and technology.

"We are so honoured to have been recognised as finalists."

Matt and Ellie Furzeman - The White Lion

Wrightington, WN6 9RE

"Being honest with ourselves, we realised our long-term business strategy needed clarification. To do this, in the form of entering LOYA, was important so that we could be frank with ourselves and look at the business with fresh eyes.

"LOYA has given us the chance to look at the bigger picture. For us, it's not about winning or losing, it has really been about the journey.

"We have challenged and questioned ourselves at each stage and learned so much beyond our comfort zone."

Colum and Annemarie McCarthy - The Greyhound Hotel

Carshalton, SM5 3PE

"We are humbled as we do a job that is our passion and life. We are lucky enough to enjoy working in this industry, from the experiences we have had and the wonderful people we work with and meet every day.

"The recognition has helped us understand the impact we have on others and appreciate how much our team and customers impact us.

"Our takeaway is to believe in ourselves and celebrate success more. We've realised that we are good at what we do."
