A thriving community hub based on the outskirts of Bristol, the Little Stoke Social Club provides locals with a place to enjoy live sports together, as well as participate in conventional pub games, Darts and Pool.
A customer of Molson Coors, Little Stoke Social Club’s inspirational licensee, Tim Hewer, has lead the way on sustainability. Tim has implemented a wide range of successful initiatives and has extended his efforts beyond his own venue, inspiring some other Molson Coors customers to alter operations at their pubs for the purpose of making themselves more sustainable.
Tim utilised the bounce back loan initiative that was introduced during the Covid crisis, borrowing £25,000 which enabled him to install solar panels in his venue. The solar panels are backed up by several batteries, powering the site to be off grid most of the time. He has also installed a software which tracks the venue’s energy consumption and how many equivalent trees he has planted, this figure currently stands at approximately 130 trees. All standard lights have been replaced with LED bulbs with the Little Stoke Social Club’s energy consumption having almost halved over the past three years, from 65,997 kWh in 2019, to 33,593 kWh in 2022.
Furthermore, the kegs in the cellar have been raised to keep them cool, whilst there is also backup glassware in there to ensure they are chilled and ready to use.
Tim’s sustainability strategies extend to harvesting his own honey, with him keeping 12 beehives and taking steps towards making his business more self-sufficient.
Looking into the future, Tim is keen to install intelligent ice bank controllers to the social club and research into importing the charge generated from solar panels to sell on.
