Situated in the heart of historic Salisbury and opposite the Cathedral, The Chapter House comprises a cosy restaurant, friendly pub and 17 comfortable guest rooms and with the building dating back to the 13th century. It’s full of character!Janine Hunter, licensee at The Chapter House, has implemented several changes to turn the pub into a sustainably operating venue.
Despite The Chapter House consisting of 17 letting rooms and five defined trading areas, Janine has had a new heating system installed that covers everywhere in the pub. The new system is much more efficient than the previous one, allowing Janine to control the heating in numerous zones, resulting in a reduction in energy consumption and subsequent cost.
Furthermore, Janine ensures that her team align with her vision for a more sustainable venue by providing the General managers with in-depth training. There are also regular team meetings and constant reviews of sustainable practices to ensure maximum efficiency. Incentives are in place for staff to not only increase sales but to reduce costs, ultimately reaffirming how important sustainability is to the whole team.
When quizzed on the importance of leading by example in their sustainability journey, Jayne does not understate how vital it is to her consumer base:
“This is vital as our core customer base are fully aware of the sustainability agenda. We also have a vast number of visitors and tourists to our venue, and they actively seek out ’greener’ and more sustainable venues. This is an ongoing project that involves all of us!”
We are extremely proud of the work being done by Jayne and the team and look forward to seeing them continue to thrive in the future.
