The Green Dragon Brook, found in the New Forest, is a lovely rural pub which is continuously engaging at the heart of its community, along with making sure operations are sustainable in multiple areas across the pub.Freya Loveless and Phill Butler, managers of The Green Dragon, have invested in energy-efficient appliances in their kitchen to cut down on energy wastage. Timers and sensors have been installed on all lighting and equipment so that appliances are only in use when needed, cutting down energy usage. Their power usage also has monitoring systems in place so that Freya and Phill can track their energy levels throughout the week. The Green Dragon has further invested in water-efficient systems such as low-flow toilets, senor taps and efficient dishwasher and glass cleaner systems, making sure their water usage is reduced.
Staff members follow an implemented recycling program within the pub, as well as reducing their usage of single-use plastic. As for food waste, the menus have been adapted to make sure customers don’t leave wastage on their plates, consequently reducing the pub’s overall food wastage.
The team at The Green Dragon Brook are educated and encouraged to use sustainable practices in and out of the pub to reduce their carbon footprint. We are delighted to award Freya and Phill at The Green Dragon with our Sustainability Champion Award.
