The Wheelwrights Arms, best known as ‘The Wheel’, is located in the village of Lambourn, near Hungerford in Berkshire.
David Geddes heads up operations at The Wheelwrights Arms and has been the driving force behind bringing about
sustainable change to the pub’s daily procedures.
Energy reduction measures, including the introduction of LED light bulbs in place of the previously used incandescent and fluorescent bulbs has helped to reduce The Wheelwrights Arms’ expenditure via lighting by up to 85%.
Furthermore, when it comes to waste reduction, a new Beertech timer has brought about success for David and the team. As a result of its installation, power to the cellar cooler is reduced or cut off at certain times, ensuring that more energy is saved in the process.
Sourcing sustainable and local stock is key for David’s sustainability journey as a wet-led pub, with many of their drinks coming from the local areas or being picked up from the local Abingdon depot where possible.
When quizzed on the importance of leading on a sustainable future in the local community, David says that it is critical as the main community site in the village to set an example to both his customers and his staff, helping to encourage sustainable behaviours both inside and outside of the pub.
We are delighted to recognise David and his team as Sustainability Champions and look forward to seeing their amazing work continue.
