The White Hart, run by licensees Thanasi and Nick, is located at the heart of Holybourne, near Alton in Hampshire, Holybourne has fantastic community spirit, attracting guests from nearby – and further afield – in their six-well appointed guest rooms.Within the guest room offering, Thanasi and Nick have ensured they are as energy efficient as possible when constructing them. The consumables in the bathroom are also sourced from sustainable suppliers, ensuring that the carbon footprint of the venue is kept low.
Since taking over The White Hart at the end of 2021, Thanasi and Nick have made their largest investment to date with their new, more efficient commercial kitchen. During implementation, energy saving and monitoring devices were installed, ensuring that the whole team are acutely aware of what is being expended.
Water-saving methods have been another focus area. Low-flow toilets have been installed in the pub along with sensor taps, while water-efficient cleaning methods on the dishwasher and glass cleaner have helped to reduce energy expenditure further.
Thanasi and Nick are passionate about their team and hold regular staff and management team meetings. They constantly try to coach their team to adopt sustainable working practices and values, both in and out of work.
When asked about the importance of a sustainable future in the local community, Thanasi recognises the impact that setting an example to their core customer base:
“Our pub is the focal point of the local community so if our core customer base sees us acting more responsibly and sustainably then hopefully, they will follow suit. We trade in an affluent area, so the green and
sustainability agenda is prevalent in the local community.”
We are delighted to recognise the brilliant work being done at The White Hart by Thanasi, Nick, and the team.
