The White Horse in Easebourne is set in the beautiful West Sussex countryside, a stone’s throw away from the historic market town of Midhurst.Under the stewardship of licensee Dean Rosser, The White Horse, a former coaching inn, has undergone changes to make operations more sustainable.
Dean started by refitting the commercial kitchen at the pub with more energy efficient equipment. This included the introduction monitoring technology, enabling Dean to actively manage his energy usage.
When it comes to waste reduction measures, The White Horse are at the forefront. They have implemented several recycling programmes, such as changing menus to reduce food waste. Customers are asked if they would like to make alterations to their order, mitigating the risk of food waste. Dean has also increased plant-based menu items and found innovation in low carbon dishes, ultimately reducing their footprint.
Food and drinks miles are also heavily reduced at The White Horse. They source sustainable, locally produced ingredients for use in dishes, something the whole team takes pride in.
When questioned on the importance of the local community in Dean’s sustainability journey, his answer demonstrates how imperative it is to him:
“The local community are our customer base. We need a shared vision and passion to ensure all businesses and residential dwellings are as sustainable as possible for the future of our families.”
Moving forward, Dean has now begun discussion with his landlord regarding additional insulation in the loft, repair of inefficient windows and the potential installation of EV charging points and solar panels.
We are proud to award Dean and the team at The White Horse with Sustainability Champion status.
