Our National Innovation in Training Awards showcase the individuals and businesses who put their people first, creating innovative training programmes and nurturing long term careers in the licensed trade. Year on year, we meet inspiring teams who support and champion their people through training programmes that support our thriving industry.

Professional Trainer of the Year

This award is open to entries from independent individual trainers or from trainers working in-house for a company.

Judges will be looking for...

  • Innovation in their approach to training and their skills in developing and delivering dynamic training.
  • A creative and personal style in coaching and motivation.
  • Demonstration on involvement in training needs identification, programme content, delivery & measuring the effectiveness of training.

Hospitality Apprentice of the Year

Supported by...

Apprentices can nominate themselves or by trainers/operators. If you are a company, you can enter multiple candidates.

Judges will be looking for...

  • An individual who has completed at least 6 months in their chosen course from Level 2 and above, and/or those who have completed an apprenticeship in the last 18 months.
  • How an individual has grown, not only in terms of their knowledge, but also their confidence in the workplace & as an individual.
  • An individual who has shown clear improvement, progression and development in their apprenticeship.

Wellbeing Award

This award is open to entries from independent individual trainers or from trainers working in-house for a company.

Judges will be looking for...

  • Entrants who have gone above and beyond to look after their teams, and also customers and communities.
  • Innovative approaches to ensuring everyone’s individual needs are considered, as well as excellent communication of any programmes they have in place.
  • Businesses that prioritise the mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing of their employees and customers, creating a positive and healthy working environment.

  • Demonstration of leadership and innovation when it comes to creating a more sustainable future for their company.

This category is any individual in a pub, hospitality business or supplier who has shown inspirational progression and professional passion.

Judges will be looking for...

  • This nomination recognises an individual’s efforts to go above and beyond professionally.
  • Please note, this award will recognise any individual in a role – managers, licensees, team members, with the exception of apprentices. 
  • Examples of how the individual has grown, not only in terms of their knowledge, but also their confidence, both in the workplace and as an individual.

Judges will be looking for...

  • Innovation in recruitment, induction, and onboarding strategy either in internal or external recruitment.

  • This might include areas such as successful attraction campaigns or initiatives, training & development, people progression, employee rewards, incentives and other elements that show innovation in recruitment.

Franca Knowles: Live Your Life Award

The award was founded by Keith Knowles in memory of his late wife, Franca, whose passion for people and commitment to excellence left a lasting mark on the hospitality industry.

It recognises an individual who has gone above and beyond in their dedication to supporting, strengthening, and championing the hospitality sector, often making a significant impact behind the scenes as well as in the public eye.

The recipient of the award is selected by a distinguished panel of previous winners, chaired by Keith Knowles, ensuring the honour reflects both peer recognition and the enduring values the award was created to celebrate.
