The Rose of Mossley is the centre of our community. We are a traditional local community pub serving beers, fine wines and pub lunches 7 days a week, with many passing visitors locally, nationally and internationally.

We have various nights each week including, Monday Night Bingo, Tuesday Chess and Crib, Wednesday and Thursday Quiz Nights, Friday chill night at the end of a busy working week and time to catch up with your mates, Saturday Live Music and Sunday our Big Money sticky 13 and chase the joker where you can win over £1k.

We are not just a pub, we are also a local charity ran by locals. The friends of the Rose of Mossley have raised over £133k for local causes over the last 12 years. We have an annual charity event in the pub car park every year to raise money and numerous events through the year to gain extra support.

Our customers come from all walks of life, including judges, builders, police officers, office workers, delivery drivers, bankers, and many others. We are proud to welcome people of every age, background, ethnicity, religion, gender, and sexual orientation. Regardless of who you are or where you come from, you will always find a warm welcome at the Rose of Mossley.

2026 also marks a very special milestone as the Rose of Mossley celebrates its 100th anniversary, highlighting a century of serving and bringing together the local community.

About the Local Community

Supporting our local community is at the heart of what we do, and we are proud to provide a welcoming space for a wide range of community groups and organisations. Our pub regularly hosts local football teams and women’s hockey teams, offering a place to meet, celebrate, and build team spirit both during and after the season.

We also support Mossley Hill Church by providing a venue for community gatherings, alongside hosting the Thursday Club, which brings local residents together in a friendly and inclusive environment. We are pleased to welcome an older people’s walking club, giving members a comfortable place to meet before or after their walks, encouraging social connection and wellbeing.

In addition, we open our doors to local bands for practice sessions, helping to support emerging musicians by providing a safe and accessible rehearsal space. By welcoming such a diverse range of groups, we aim to create a true community hub where people of all ages and interests can come together, build relationships, and enjoy a sense of belonging. We are committed to continuing our support for local initiatives and strengthening our connection with the community.

Additionally, we put on annual free Christmas lunches for pensioners or people who have financial hardship.

About Local Businesses

We actively collaborate with a range of local businesses and community organisations. We support the local summer fete and, during quieter periods, allow customers of neighbouring businesses to use our pub car park. We also promote local businesses across our social media channels and in our newsletter, particularly when they have supported us through sponsorship or by donating prizes, goods, or services.

We are proud to host the Rose Lane Business Forum, where local businesses come together to share ideas, strengthen relationships, and discuss ways we can support one another and the wider community.

We also have a strong relationship with St Anthony of Padua Catholic Primary School, supporting the school’s PTA throughout the year. Each Christmas, the children visit the pub to sing carols, and we provide a festive buffet for them to enjoy afterwards. In addition, the local church holds its annual Christmas Carol Concert at the pub, making it a valued community tradition that brings local residents together each year.

We are committed to supporting local suppliers and businesses wherever possible. We work closely with local meat wholesalers, Booker, and a local taxi company, helping to strengthen the local economy through long-term business relationships.

As a key hub on Rose Lane, we believe the pub plays an important role in supporting the wider local economy. Our closure would have a significant impact on neighbouring businesses and the community, as we all work closely together and share a strong sense of mutual support and professional respect.

We regularly collaborate with other local businesses on community initiatives, events, and charitable fundraising. For example, the local Tesco Express has been a valued partner in supporting our charity events and fundraising activities, demonstrating the strong relationships we have built within the local business community.

About Staff at Rose of Mossley

Many of the staff have been with us for a number of years, a few even support me when I manage to get a holiday. I have supported them with additional training and supported them with becoming licensees.

They all go the extra mile, keeping things fun, getting dressed up, always looking at new ways to support me and the customers as much as they can. In return I offer higher pay to all staff, regardless of their age they get the same pay. I support them with flexi working and special leave, two of them take it in turns and would stay when I need them to. A couple of them help me with social media, and they all help me more than I could hope for as I have been on my own now running the pub since I lost my husband 14 years ago.

About Charity Work at Rose of Mossley

Giving back to our community is one of our core values. Alongside supporting our own local charity, the Friends of the Rose of Mossley, we also support three to four local charities each year. These charities are nominated by our customers through the pub’s Facebook page, ensuring the causes we support reflect the priorities of our local community.

Each year, the nominated charities are carefully considered by our charity committee, which is made up of local residents who volunteer their time to organise and lead our fundraising activities. Together, we host a variety of events throughout the year, raising an average of £10,000 annually for local good causes.

Over the past 13 years, we are proud to have raised and donated more than £133,000 to charities and community organisations. This ongoing commitment demonstrates the important role our pub plays in supporting those in need and bringing the community together for a common purpose.
