About The Plough

The Plough is a community-led suburban London pub that combines high-quality food and drink with genuine neighbourhood hospitality. While we operate in a competitive South West London market, our identity is firmly rooted in community connection and creating a welcoming environment for everyone who walks through our doors.

We pride ourselves on being premium without being pretentious. Whether guests are joining us for a weekday lunch, a family Sunday roast, a celebratory dinner or simply a drink with friends, they are welcomed as individuals and made to feel part of the pub.

“The Plough is the heart of its community because it serves a purpose far greater than food and drink. It is where families celebrate milestones, neighbours meet friends, local groups gather, young people gain confidence, and regulars find familiarity and belonging. It is a place where relationships are built across generations and where people know they will be welcomed.”

About the Local Community

We work closely with local schools by sponsoring fêtes, donating raffle prizes and supporting fundraising activities. We also support young people through our partnership with WEST Youth Zone, where Sonia and the Sous Chef delivered a pop-up cooking session designed to build confidence, practical skills and engagement with hospitality.

The Plough has always operated with an open-door for groups into the pub. Walking groups regularly use the pub as a meeting and stopping point during their routes, and we welcome a broad range of community members through our regular quiz nights, live music events and seasonal celebrations.

One example that perfectly demonstrates our approach occurred not through a major event, but through everyday hospitality. A young regular named Aiden became so comfortable and familiar with The Plough that one day he took off his shoes when entering because he believed he was at home.

Rebuilding that trust required thousands of small acts of hospitality and community engagement. Today, hearing residents say, “This is our pub,” remains one of the greatest indicators that those efforts were worthwhile.

About Local Businesses

We prioritise local suppliers wherever possible, helping strengthen the local economy while reducing food miles and environmental impact. Our seasonal menu planning allows us to work flexibly with local producers and adapt our offer based on availability.

We actively collaborate with local businesses and organisations through community events and partnerships. We work closely with East Sheen Village to promote local initiatives and ensure community events receive visibility.

We commission East Sheen artist Rachel Hunt to design our bespoke coasters and postcards. This supported a local creative business while giving our guests a unique product that celebrates the local area.

The closure of any community pub inevitably has a ripple effect on local suppliers, reducing opportunities for independent producers, creatives and service providers. The Plough’s continued success helps sustain a wider network of local businesses that contribute to East Sheen’s identity and economy.

About Staff at The Plough

Supporting our team goes far beyond traditional management. When The Plough reopened in 2022, we built the entire team from scratch, creating a culture founded on development, trust and genuine care.

Professionally, every team member receives regular one-to-one coaching focused on their strengths, aspirations and career goals. We actively invest in development through programmes such as MTP, Accelerating Leadership and Lead Your Way, while also providing daily coaching and mentoring on the floor and in the kitchen.

One of our proudest achievements is helping develop two consecutive NITA Apprentice of the Year winners in 2024 and 2025. These successes were the result of structured mentoring, confidence-building and creating an environment where young people feel safe to challenge themselves and pursue ambitious goals.

About Charity Work at The Plough

Fundraising is often integrated into our community events and activities. Our quiz nights, themed evenings and community gatherings regularly incorporate fundraising elements that encourage guests to support worthy causes while enjoying social experiences together.

We also support charitable causes through raffle prize donations, sponsorship of local initiatives and participation in community events that generate funds for local organisations.

For us, fundraising is not simply about collecting money. It is about bringing people together around shared causes and using the pub’s position within the community to create positive impact.
