The Government provided a calculator following the announcement in January, but this was taken down from their website in March 2026, as bills started to land from Local Authorities. The BBPA have kindly shared their version of the calculator which gives the correct approximate bills you should be receiving, based on the same criteria set by Government.
You will need your old and new rateable value figures, which you can find here, via the Government website. Once you have those figures, you can replace the placeholder figures in the spreadsheet. You will also need to select from the drop down menus YES or No, for “In London?”, “Managed?” and “RHL Relief?”. The calculator will do the rest for you, laying out your bills for Year 1 and estimated Year 2 and Year 3.
PLEASE NOTE: This will provide a best estimate of your appropriate rates bill, but the system is so complex, there may be small variances depending on if you have claimed transitional relief before, or other factors.
It is really important you check your business rates valuation and rates bills against this calculator, to check that your Local Authority has understood the guidance from Government on how to calculate them. If you think your bill is wrong, please contact your Local Authority and give them the amount calculated by this calculator, which is in line with the Government’s original calculator.
Challenging your bill, instead of challenging your rateable value is a much quicker and easier process. There are many challenges from the 2023 revaluation that are still outstanding, but we have had members challenge their bills and had them corrected within a few days – before they have even had to start paying.
We have been spot checking bills from members and more often than not, they are incorrect. If you have any questions, please do get in touch with our team on 01276 684449 or email membership@bii.org.
